E-GENERATION

ELDERS IN ACTION E-Generation Project is designed to lend support and bring awareness to our elders in the community. The programme seeks to bring out the many hidden strengths of our former leaders, teachers, parents and once “movers and shakers” of our society; who have helped shape our lives and their community.

The YMCA provides a comfortable environment in an atmosphere that embraces the universal principles of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility which we believe will foster continued spiritual, mental, physical and emotional growth in our seniors.

Participants receive information and monthly instructions on health and fitness, aquatic exercise, basic computer literacy, and financial planning. Other activities include; as well as offering enjoyable activities like Ti Chi, Spa Days, Massage Therapy, First Aid and Field Trips.

We thank the Ministry of the People and Social Development for partnering with our organization to ensure our senior members can continue to enjoy a healthy, fun filled lifestyle.

EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE & DEVELOPMENT

The YMCA’s Early Childhood Learning Centre is acknowledged as a premiere provider, of child care services in Trinidad and Tobago. Our curriculum is thematic; based on the interest of the children. Typical course of activities include: Social Studies, Science, Mathematics, Language Arts, Physical Education and Creative Arts.

The YMCA works in partnership with families, respecting the diverse cultural backgrounds that enrich our programmes, recognizing that all families have different needs, interests and expectations.

YOUTH OUTREACH

The YMCA Youth Outreach Services (YOS) is dedicated to developing caring, responsible individuals.  YOS has three arms of youth service; MenTouring, HIV and AIDS Awareness and Youth Leadership Development.

We are focused on mentoring young boys in a non-violence approach to dealing with gender issues. Our service titled MenTouring provides alternatives through lectures, activities, swimming and personal testimonials of successful males who have survived the odds in society.

The MenTouring programme delivers service to Kids In Need of Direction (KIND) and St Michaels Boys’ Home, Credo and other Secondary schools in the environs.

AQUATICS

The YMCA Aquatics Program has been in existence for over 47 years and is one of the Premier Programs of the YMCA. Internationally, the organization has been known for a high level of aquatic involvement and execution.

In 2006, through the assistance of corporate Trinidad and Tobago, we were able to build a new swimming pool. This became necessary as the previous pool served the population of Port of Spain for the past 60 years.

Aquatics target both the recreational swimmers and the health conscious or exercise swimmer. There are courses designed for both children and adults. The following table outlines the basic courses offered under the YMCA aquatics program:

Swimming is a great and relaxing activity. It tones your entire body while providing an excellent cardiovascular workout; it strengthens your heart muscle and improves delivery of oxygen to muscles.
